Washington D.C.’s Initiative 81, the Entheogenic Plant and Fungus Policy Act of 2020, was formally brought before Congress on February 1 for a mandated review period of 30 legislative days, Decriminalize Nature DC announced on Wednesday. Congress expected to approve and implement the initiative by the “Projected Law Date” of March 19, 2021.

Somerville, Massachusetts’ city council voted on Thursday to decriminalize entheogenic plants and fungi. The move comes as a collaborative effort of Bay Staters for Natural Medicine and Decriminalize Nature Massachusetts. The city council acknowledged the benefits of psilocybin and other psychedelics in treating mental health issues like severe depression and anxiety, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
